Typical challenges
- Unique geometries and boundary conditions requiring custom sensors
- Need for fast iteration and short lead times
- Open data formats and easy toolchain integration
- Budget and lab resource constraints
What we deliver
- Customizable probe designs using additive manufacturing (materials, geometries, internal channels)
- Rapid prototyping and iteration with consistent, repeatable calibration
- Open, documented interfaces (CAN, UART, Ethernet; raw and processed data)
- Co-engineered, project-specific solutions: from requirements capture to CAD, AM prototypes, testing, and handover
PROJECT Example
Tornado Research at Missouri University of Science and Technology
Setup
For a research program on tornado dynamics, Missouri S&T used Vectoflow Omniprobe and 5-hole probes to study how hills and slopes influence tornado paths and vortex structures under controlled wind tunnel conditions.
Challenge
Capturing precise, multi-directional flow data in highly turbulent, tornado-like vortices to understand how topography alters wind speed, pressure deficits, and vortex behavior.
Key Findings
- Significant changes in horizontal, lateral, and vertical wind velocities near hilltops
- Terrain strongly influences tornado path shifts and intensity
- Vectoflow probes enabled accurate, repeatable data even in complex, unsteady flow fields
